Spey Gathering @ 9:00 am on Saturday, the 10th of November, 2007, on the Muskegon River at Henning Park in Newaygo, Michigan.
This will be an opportunity to learn from some of the best that Guideline has to offer.
Toni Karuvaara from Guideline Sweden will be demonstrating Underhand Casting and using Spey casts with a single hander and shooting heads.
Jack Cook, representing Guideline North America, will be explaining and demonstrating Guideline products from a West Coast perspective. This will be more of a fishing than a casting demo.
Peter Humphreys, Guideline Pro Staff, FFF THCI/CI, will present a basic spey casting demo, covering fine tuning your casting skills (anchor, D-loop, and applying the 180 degree rule).
Neil Houlding FFF THCI/CI, G. Loomis Pro Staff, will be available to assess your spey outfit and will freely give advice on your rod/reel/line combination and your technique or lack thereof.
Peter Charles, Guideline Pro Staff, will be giving a talk with handouts on fly presentation using shooting heads and full sinking lines.
Ari Leiman, from Finland will be demonstrating tying tube and pike flies.
GREAT LAKES FLY FISHING of Rockford, Michigan, will be at the Clave selling Guideline rods and lines, in case you test cast something you cannot live without.
If time allows later in the day, Peter Humphreys and Neil will give a demonstration of fishing and casting from a boat.
If there is the interest, we will have an Early Bird spey casting demonstration on late Friday afternoon at the above location.
Although this is a showcase primarily for Guideline products and staff, this is a free event and any and all brands and manufacturers are more than welcome. Contact Woodlander through this forum for further info.
Spey casting can be injurious to your health, so wear glasses and a hat. Get in and out of the water carefully and wade safely. Please use fluffies or cut off the hook from your fly.

OK, looks like I will be making it after all.
Wondering if we can get a show of hands from everybody who doesn't use Speypages.com or UMFF?
Doug mentioned this evening that he'd like to put an "early bird" session together for Friday afternoon and asked for volunteers. I never learned not to volunteer in the army, so I'm up for doing a session on assembling comprehensive systems where all of the components work well together. The idea is to determine what sort of presentation is desired, then work backwards from that to ensure that all components work together to produce that presentation. I'll be using my shooting head, leader and fly system as an example of a comprehensive system, but the concept can be applied to any type of fishing rig.
I know there is a thread on www.speypages.com as well, but how about a headcount for attendees. There may be some on this board that aren't on the others so let's sound off.
I'll be there Friday and Saturday.
Spey Clave
Hello everyone!
Cant wait to get down in Muskegon and have some fun with the boys I know... Will be great to see all of you again and hopefully we will get some new faces there. I will be there also on friday afternoon...need to check my gear ready and try some lines for my rods... Hopefully we have good weather and good fishing in Muskegon during the 2 weeks me and Ari are fishing there...Ari is my buddie from Finland and part of the Guideline team here...I think he will do some big pike flies...on tube or hook if weather is good. See you soon! Toni Karuvaara Another Good reason to Support Poppy and The Red Shed!

Hello Doug Did Jeff send you that Mortensen DVD? It is for a door prize for your event. Also I am donating one Echo 2 Scandi rod with a matching Airflo scandi floating head and Ridge running line as a raffle prize or door prize to your event. It will be winner's choice of model size. Please let me know the winner's name and when they contact me about which model they want I will send it out. The choices are as follows: 12'4"-7wt, 12'4"-8wt, 12'6"-9wt. The fine print is, no substitutions, can't exchange it for cash, offer expires on Nov. 10, 2008. Take care, MJC __________________ Poppy=Red Shed Spey Rod Pimp www.redshedflyshop.com How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster.
