Wow what a blank to start with!
My first rod was a IM6 brook trout rod, blank cost me $15.00. Nothing like coming out swinging! Let us all know and post some pics of your first fish. Welcome to the club. You too will have rooms of your house filled with tools, materials and other junk you will not use but you "think you need"! If you need to get a jump start let me know, I have plenty. My wife often wonders where the shop ends and the house starts. Nice job. Eric
thanks for all the advice guys. i appreciate your dedication the this craft.
will do. wisconsin trout season opens in 8 days!
thanks LS.
i want to give a shout out to Dan's Tackle Service here too. anyone in the chicago area that's building rods or thinking of getting into it should stop by and talk to dan. he gave me a full tutorial on wrapping inlays and answered lots of other questions i had. he's struggling to stay afloat in the internet age and needs our support. http://www.danstackleservice.com/ hope the plug doesn't break any rules of the forum...
Re: 1st rod results!
first fish on the new stick. i paired it with a click and prawl reel from redington, the drift model.
![]() it performed flawlessly. i, however, was a bit rusty. i did manage a few nice fish before the rains came and blew out the streams. the critics approved... ![]()

Thanks for the follow up on your build! Glad to see that you have landed your first fish on your rod build... So what are you going to build next Tight Lines David4784
Re: 1st rod results!
You did a beautiful job on it. Looks as good as a seasoned builder's. Glad you went through Dan. He helped me with my first, though mine did not come out as near as well as yours. Great work!
Re: 1st rod results!
thanks reg. it does have some issues up close but over all i'm pleased. next time i'll epoxy the wraps a little heavier. i was worried about going too heavy and ended up going too light.
that's going to be an 8wt switch for throwing cats on the tribs.
Re: 1st rod results!
Nice job on your new stick. I like the color combo. Keep up the good work this is whats so cool about this sport, It has so many aspects and brings out so much from many talented people. So a good spring to all with many tight lines...Boomba
Re: 1st rod results!
Actually, that's a good thing. Just put on a second coat. Alot of builders will say that it is better to put on two light coats than one heavy coat anyways.
