Just curious about the scott a3 8wt 11ft switch rod. haven't heard much about them and was wondering about line setups and how it compares to other switch rods for a similar price
Hey steelwhapper45 why dont u come party with us saturday night?
I don't know any more than what the website has on it. But if your in the same price range I'd opt for the beulah 8/9 or 7/8 depending what you want to do with it. I have the 8/9 and it's a workhorse of a rod. Scandi or skagit work good on it.
alright ive been seen alot about those and it seems anyone who has one loves it. im pretty serious about investing in a decent switch rod in that price range. whatever i get i would use it for steelhead on lake erie tributaries as a basic all purpose rod
ya i wouldnt mind supporting an american company instead of an overseas one
I have the a3 switch, and although I can not give an accurate representation of the rod (very new to 2 handed rods) I must say that I am very impressed with the power and lightness of the rod. I did some makeshift swings with it the past year and I thought it performed good in the hands of a novice like me, and it performed very well when indicator fishing long runs and such. I like it, but like I said my experience with it is very limited. Looking forward to using it more this year, maybe I can give a better analysis of it later on.

A frind of mine has that rod. A custom 20ft 325grain line with an 8wt tip is real nice (35ft 435 +/-grains total). Rod loads deep, with a nice, even, smooth bend. Loads alot deeper than the Beulah 8/9, but doesn't lack power at all. Seems like a Compact Scandi head in the 375-400 range would do nice also. Maybe an Airflo 40+ 8 or 9wt for switch work.
alright thank you that's the kinda information i've been lookin for and haven't been finding much
Sweet Stick
Picked one up recently. Fished it first time this week with an Indy rig using Rio Atlantic Salmon/Steelhead in 10 wt. Love it! Rolls with authority. Light enough to single hand all day, but nice that when you wasn't some extra go, just a little assist from the lower hand and BAM! Eager to get the Rio Skagit Short 475 gr. Out to swing.
