Sheffield Float Rod

I'm just wondering what results people have had with the Sheffield IM8 Float Rod (13' 4'')....I was just wondering if the rod is a quality piece or just a piece of you know what.....Thanks

I have not fished with the Sheffield, I have got to handle it though and I just did not care for the way it felt. It seem like it would have some major tip sag and seemed like it did not have much back bone. One option to look at is the Raven Matrix overall good rod plenty of back bone and for a price a little over a hundred bucks you could save a little coin to. Call Craig at Erie Outfitters (440) 949-8934 I am sure he can give you some better feed back on this rod and many others.

Understand that Im not an expert by any means. I have been pinning for 4 months now. Being from the East Side of Cleveland and not knowing anything about Erie Outfitters, it was easy for me to go to Gander Mountain and purchase my first Pin. They only have the Okuma / Sheffield Pin. For me the 13'-4" Rod is not a problem to fish with. I have never had any problems setting hooks even on long drifts. The rod picks the line up very well. Has very good action with fish on. Heaviest fish caught on it so far is 9 lbs. and no problems. The weight, balance and feel of the rod is good. All things considered I personally feel, for the price, it is a great product and will fit you well for Ohio Steelies. But I would be hesitant to take this set up up to NY for the Kings and larger Browns.

Since I have made a decision to put my open face reels away and make pinning a main stay, I decided to visit EO and see what all the hub bub was about. Craig has a great selection of rods and pins. He spent at least 3 hours with me allowing me to handle all the products he has while educating me on each product as well. I have already purchased a larger diameter pin, Raven Matrix XL and I am looking at upgrading the rod to the 13' GLX G. Loomis. Mainly to fit my Ohio and NY fishing needs with one set up, thanks Craig .

I'm up in WNY so a ride there to check gear out would be fun but it's a bit out of the way.....I'm just looking for another rod to use or to have for backup and was wondering if the Sheffield is worth it....also looked at the Okuma Guide Series as well because my buddy has had luck with that....any more info would be greatly appreciated...thanks guys

i would suggest that rod as a backup. i compared side by side a 1601 loomis and the 13'4" sheffield and the only difference was in wieght. the loomis was a little lighter but the back bone was virtually the same. and it was designed in amherst, NY not bad, eh?

This comment is about 18 months late but for what it's worth I just spotted the Sheffield Reel and Okuma Sheffield 13'4" Rod combo for sale at a major retailer (Dicks, Gander Mountain, etc) for the first time ever. They had it at Dicks for ~ $299.95. First time I've ever seen centerpin eqpt at a place other than small specialty fishing or fly shops.

I own a that Sheffield rod and it is a good rod. It's not a GLX, that's why it's less than 1/2 the price of the GLX. I've caught a decent amount of fish with it and can't complain. If money is not an option, spring for the GLX. If not the Sheffield is still a good rod.

I personally fished this rod/reel combo and caughtalot of fish on it. It is a great rod/reel combo for the price. You have to decide how much you can spend then look at the best products in that price range. Looking used is another option. I have since caught the sickness and bought a High end set up. Truth be told I really do not think it will make a difference. It depends on WHO is holding the rod. A good fisherman will catch about the same amount of fish with a Sheffield or a custom built loomis. Buy what you can afford. If you love Pinning spend as much as you can and save yourself the headaches of upgrading right away. My Two cents.

Its that time of year again ,so Im back. The rod is not a bad rod for the money. Take a look at the other rods in that price range(matrix,Steelheader IM6,WM,Cortland) and make a desision based on personal prefrence.(handle,weight,action)................Craig
