Hey guys,
I'm planning to make a purchase of a new fly reel for next fall and wanted to do some research on two potential reels I had in mind. Has anyone tried these reels or owned them? NV is a hundred dollars more but both of these reels are pricey. Was wondering if these are sealed drags maybe? Feedback and input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your help guys.

Ross Reel
No experience with a Nautilus, however, have owned a Ross Canyon Big Game Reel for a number of years and it is a great reel. The Momentum took the place of the Ross Canyon a couple of years ago so I'm assuming it's basically the same reel with a few cosmetic changes. It has a sealed drag system which is smooth as silk. I have the Ross that has a 3 3/4 inch diam. for 7 or 8 wt. rod and it cost about $345.00 4 years ago.
okuma's helios is a better reel in any aspect of comparison than either of those you are looking at. aside from that fact, you can get the helios, spare spool, backing and quality flylines for both spools and still spend less than either reel that you are looking at.
A sealed drag is an advantage, if you can't help dunking your reel. Water can cause a drag to surge, sometimes the fancy weight saving venting on the side plates of a fly reel can allow splashing water to access the drag more easily. I will often cover these vents with a colored tape, this keeps the water out and is not adding a lot of unnecessary weight to the outfit.
