Just got my first pin. Is there a good low cost line I can use to learn with befor i Get the expensive high dolar line? Thanks for taking pitty on a new piner.
P-line cxx is affordable and works extremely well. Go on youtube and watch some of the centerpin casting videos and pay attention to detail. This way when you start to fish with your pin casting will be a breeze and you wont go through a bunch of line. Make sure not to over spool your reel it will only make things more difficult. Starting out it will be better to put as little line on as possible until you can cast properly.
how can I move this to the center pin fourm?
thanks for the help sofar.
Try Siglon F or FF $10 to $12 for a spool of 330 yds. I use it on my spinning gear as well...works great.
For a beginner I think that CXX will reduce the amount of rigging involved. There will be no need to run a shotline all the rigging; float, shot, swivel can go on the mainline CXX and then just tie off the tippet/leader material to the swivel.
cxx will sink making it tough to mend or keep line out of the water. Start with a stiff heavy line(12#to15#) it will make casting easier to learn and then step up to a thinner specialty line....craig
I have used 10lb CXX for quite sometime especially when fishing for kings with the centerpin. It worked very well but now I run 20 lb Siglon and I love it. The 20lb. siglon only has a diameter of .015 and 10 CXX has a diameter of .014 and I have heard that lower pound tests of the siglon many times break above the swivel if using a 8 lb. leader. CXX is a truly amazing line in regards to abrasion resistance and overall strength. Yes the Siglon does help in mending on long drifts though.
