I'm headin out early tomorrow morning with my new pin. Haven't caught any females this year so I don't have any spawn to use. I was wondering what u guys would suggest the next best thing would be for me to use under my float. Thanks a lot.
Crawlers, wax worm's, and minnows. depending on where your fishing.
So about a 3" white or pink worm then? How exactly should I rig it on the hook? Just hook one end of the worm or is there a better method. Because from what I could imagine is the steelie would maybe just take the bottom of the worm and not get the hook? That's just what I could see happening maybe not everytime but sometimes? Thanks again for the help.

I fish them wacky rigged. (hooked threw the middle once)
I have had a day or two where nose hooking produced better but wacky 95%. Beleive it or not they usualy crush um. I dont miss many. jigs will produce also.
just because you don't have the real thing doesn't mean that you can't use sucker spawn! many of times i've burned up 2 or 3 tubes of eggs and sucker spawn has helped to finish that day out.
I havent heard anything good about the cheap fake spawn. Everyone ive asked have said not to even bother with the fake stuff. But i guess if i have to then ill try it out. For now i am going to use the shrimp i got and try some jigs out.
True dat. Store eggs are a waste of time. You might catch a fish, maybe. Flies, jigs, waxies, grubs, or crawlers will all give better results, but catch a hen for best results later.

I don't know if you have heard about beads , they are the thing to use on the salmon river , Pulaski,NY. Check out (salmoncrazy.com). Also pink worms are the old stand by for steel and browns.
