I was given two fly reels with line already on them. One has orange line on it the other one has beige on it, Is there any way to tell what type of line it is? and is it ok to use the orange color for steeleading?
Re: Line questions
If you are lucky there might be a sticker on the inner side of the spool when you take it off. Otherwise a flyshop guy could give you a good guess by casting them on different weights of rods. As far as color goes in stained or lowlight conditions it really wont matter much, a longer leader would help if it is clear conditions if you have a bright line. And now that I am thinking about it, I am not really sure what a really bright colored line application is, other than it makes a nice picture
Re: Line questions
Longdrive I got lucky and found partial written with permanent marker. float WF-8. Thanks for the advice. I think Ill take it to the shop and just make sure they think it coincides
Here's toTight Lines and a great season
Re: Line questions
Take thew out and cast them to see how they feel on your rod..sometimes being off a line weight or 2 still works, alot of rods work better overlined especially on shorter casts
