Going to crank out the last of my flys for spring on this baby. The drawers hold pretty much all of my materials. Real happy with how it turned out.

New Tying DeskDiscussions About Fly Tying Methods, Techniques and Tips
Moderator: Thomas Steele New Tying Desk
I have to brag a little.....here's some pics of my new fly tying desk that I designed and my Dad built. He does finished carpentry projects on the side. This one turned out awesome! It is solid maple, the desk top is 2'' thick butcher block.

That is awesome! Want to buy or build one myself. Sitting at our breakfast bar to tie flies is getting old. Do you have the plans written down and would you be willing to share the plans?
I could give you the dimensions and what not......as for exact plans...I kinda just sketched out what I wanted with the dimensions and wood type and my Dad built it. He is a semi-master wood worker, not sure if he expanded on my sketches, or just knocked it out (he's not known for writing a lot down). If you don't want to build it yourself I could put you in touch with him, he does a lot of custom projects like this. Send me a pm if you want to pursue that. I was tying on the breakfast bar also......not practical at all. My production has gone up about 300% since I got this thing just because all of my tools and materials are together and readily available. Much more convenient that getting everything out, tying a few and putting it all away.
Re: New Tying Desk
just a suggestion that works for me.... especially if you have a dog like i do[seeing your cage there]...... place a magnetic strip somewhere on you table or where you like[i mounted mine on back wall] ... this way it keeps hooks off floor [ since i like dogs more than people]
Re: New Tying Desk
Too clean!! I want the pics after a 4 dozen or so streamer bender
Re: New Tying Desk
Ha, it is no longer that clean. I've cranked out a couple thousand flys this year on it, so its much more cluttered, but still cleans up nice. Good call on the magnetic strip also, I have had to unhook a 35 lbs spring spaniel recently.
