Hi everybody,
I'm relatively new to Steelhead fishing when temps are below freezing. I went out not long ago and couldn't keep the ice off my rod or guides at all. I used vaseline to coat the guides, but it didn't seem to help much. I was wondering if there was a helpful "how-to" thread on here that highlights how to combat this problem. I tried the "search" function and wasn't able to find what I was looking for. Any help or advice would be appreciated as I'm headed out later this week into 20*F weather.
Thanks,
Nate

We fish the Erie tribs in dead of winter and here is what we know works. Go get some fly floatant and use it on your guides. We tried the stuff available at Cabelas, which works for maybe a half hour, but the floatant worked well over an hour before we figured it might be time to reapply. The floatant doesnt damage your setup either.
