I am looking at getting an 11' switch rod, either st. croix or tfo. Wondering what reel will match up with it for a 7 wt and using if for steelies here on the west side. Thanks, Scott..
Re: Reel for switch / spey rod
All depends on your price range and if you want a disc drag or more classic click and pawl like a Hardy. Something like a Ross CLA #5 would be pretty much bullet proof, wouldn't cost an arm and a leg new and some good deals can be if you find one used. Drop me a PM if you have any other questions.
Re: Reel for switch / spey rod
I have a Reddington Delta series 7/8(weighs just under 8oz) paired with a TFO Deer Creek 6wt switch. So far I really like the reel(and the rod!) It balances just where I like it: the middle of the handle where I hold it on the swing. The Ross CLA's are great reels too, from what I hear. In my opinion you will want a reel that weighs right around 8oz to balance an 11 foot switch rod. Tight Lines!
