Looking for recommendation on rod weight for SR. Am new to this type of flyfishing - should I get a 6wt or 7wt switch rod (11') for use on Salmon River (NY) steelhead? Line recommendations would help too. Thanks.
what fishing conditions are you fishing in most of the time, size of river and flies wanting to be used? My thought leans towards a beulah for the switch rods. The 7/8 or 8/9 switch the lines depends on what you want to do with it. I lean towards scandi lines for most of my fishing but for heavy tips and big flies it's skagit time. If you can give me some hints I'll try and point you in the right direction. Cheers, Eric
I deleted my big manifesto and sent it directly to you via PM.
Your question: Heck, if my life depended on it I would swing a spawn bag. Otherwise, a large, really fluffy black wooley bugger with palmered hackles that were really long, a really long flowy tail with a tiny bit of sparkle or a few strands of flash in it.
